If you've been following our Dune: Awakening pieces, you'll know that we highly recommend completing optional journeys as a great way to easily level up. They're often quick, not too challenging, and helpful in your overall progression.
One Journey that's started automatically is the one you unlock after crafting the Resource Scanner. To complete it, you need to find hidden loot in open sand. Here's how to find unburied treasures in Dune: Awakening.
The Resource Scanner is a utility tool in Dune: Awakening. Although the game highlights most resources when you drive or walk right past them, and despite the fact that most points of interest are highlighted when you survey an area, other things will remain hidden.
You can uncover those by utilizing your Resource Scanner, a tool that scans a large cone in front of you, highlighting and marking every resource in its range. It will warn you of Drum and Quicksand in areas that you haven't surveyed and, crucially, it will also warn you of any unburied treasures. As far as we've tested, there is no other way to find them.
Following the main journey will teach you how to harvest Flour Sand, with one of the steps being to create a Handheld Resource Scanner. That's how you get access to the schematic, which will allow you to craft the utility tool. It is cheap to make, costing only 9 Iron ingots and 6 EMF Generators, but you do need a power pack with a minimum of 150 energy to be able to use it.
Once you craft the Handheld Resource Scanner you'll automatically unlock the Buried Treasure journey. It will ask you to find an Unburied Treasures by using the Handheld Resource Scanner, and to loot it with the Static Compactor.
It only spawns in open sand, which are the areas in which the footstep vibration indicator will pop-up when you're walking or driving. If you search in places that look like open sand but they don't have a footstep indicator, you need to head out deeper into the sand in order to be able to find Unburied Treasures.
Our recommendation for doing this safely is to leave all your loot and equipment at home in case things go south. Carry only the Handheld Resource Scanner and the Static Compactor. Then, find the edge where the open sand starts, walk until the vibration indicator pops up, and that's the spot.
You'll want to walk on that line around your base (or any other safe zone) while using the Handheld Resource Scanner on cooldown. Point it beyond the line. This allows you to scan into the open sand without actually walking around in it, minimizing the risk.
Once you see an icon you don't recognize pop up, open your map to make sure it isn't a patch of Drum or Quicksand. If it isn't, that means you found loot! Walk slowly towards it while holding the Static Compactor, point it at the sand area under the icon, and use it. You will automatically receive the loot. That's how to find unburied treasure in Dune: Awakening.
Remember to start rushing back as soon as you use the Static Compactor, because it might attract the Shai-Hulud. If you've invested into the Bindu Sprint Bene Gesserit skill, we recommend using it as an extra safety measure.
