Carbon Ore is an important resource in Dune Awakening. It's not something you’ll find early on, and it won’t show up where you first start mining.
This guide covers where to find it, what you need to mine it, and why it’s worth collecting.
Carbon Ore is a tier 3 material in Dune Awakening. You’ll need it once you’re moving past Iron Ore and Copper Ore. It’s mainly used to make Steel Ingots, which are required for stronger weapons, armor, and more advanced building through the Research system.
To craft one Steel Ingot, you’ll need 4 Carbon Ore, 1 Iron Ingot, and 50 Water at a Small Ore Refinery.

You won’t see any Carbon Ore in the Vermillius Gap area. That’s where you start getting Iron and Copper, but Carbon spawns later. To find it, you need to head into Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub. This area is north of Eastern and Western Vermillius Gap and west of Hagga Rift.
It’s a tougher region, so you might want to be a bit better equipped before heading there. Look for white crystal spikes sticking out of brown rock.
Those are Carbon Ore nodes. You’ll mostly see them in rocky areas. Also, the region has hazards like drumsand and quicksand, so travel carefully.
You can’t just use any mining tool for Carbon Ore. You’ll need the Cutteray Mk2. It’s stronger than the basic version and lets you mine Carbon and even Erythrite Crystals later.
You can craft the Cutteray Mk2 using a General Fabricator or Survival Fabricator. Here’s what you’ll need:
If you don’t have the tool yet, you can still find small bits of Carbon Ore lying around on the ground, but picking those up will take a lot longer to gather what you need.
The best way to collect Carbon Ore is to build or move your base closer to where it spawns in Jabal Eifrit Al-Janub. That saves you long trips and lets you farm more as the nodes respawn over time.
It also helps to have a Sandbike with upgraded storage. A Sandbike Inventory Mk2 lets you carry more, which is useful since Steel Ingot crafting uses a lot of Carbon Ore and Water.
Every Tuesday, the Coriolis Storm shifts resource locations a bit. Carbon Ore still spawns in the same general region, but the exact nodes will move around. So if your usual spot looks empty, just check nearby.
